This home bar is made of oak with sycamore detailing. The customer was kind enough to give me this feedback:

‘After emailing several different companies and individuals I had received a few half hearted quotes varying massively. Nick’s response was different. He showed interest in what I wanted, made suggestions and gave an accurate drawing and quote. By far the most professional quote I had received and despite not being the cheapest he was most definitely reasonable and clearly knew what he was on about.

‘The finished product was perfect. Exactly what I wanted, no compromises at all. I would without question recommend and use Nick again.’ (This feedback was given by the customer on the Houzz web site. I didn’t just make it up!)

Which was nice. And he did use my services again.

In some ways this bar is typical of my work. It is made largely of American white oak, panelled in simple Shaker style. The panels are veneered MDF, which I use quite a lot as it is inexpensive and very practical. The bar tops on the other hand are solid oak, which is much tougher, and doesn’t really mind getting wet.

The frieze is in sycamore, a lovely, crisp, pale wood, and employs a design I have used elsewhere. My process for relief carving like this is to draw out the pattern by hand, then cut it out with a router and finally finish the detailing by hand.

The whole thing consists of a front bar with some shelves, and a back bar with two large wine racks, a mirror, a cupboard and space for fridges. I also made the bar stools.

It was fortunate that this commission was quite close to my home, so going back and forth to my workshop was quite easy. It can be difficult for me to do fitted furniture at a distance from home, but please do enquire if you have a project in mind.
